16 Mar. 2012: FORWARD TO DAYTONA, BACK TO BIKES

Surprisingly light traffic on the drive up to Daytona Beach yesterday. Feels good to be heading north and the sun feels a little less sharp. We’re in the same building as last year, same north view side but on 4thfloor instead of 6th. This time the condo is cleaner, better laid-out, although the same 350 sq. ft. The famous beach is wide and packed with spring breakers and hi-tech treasure hunters.
Ironically, looking into the rear view mirror shows what’s ahead! We’ve arrived for the last 3 days of Bike Week 2012, the biggest motorcycle gathering (in the USA? On earth?). You can’t escape it. Hundreds of thousands of badass bikes with no apparent speed limit or noise bylaw enforcement. It’s like walking around inside continuous thunder, with lightning splitting your eardrums just for good measure. Extremely crazy and crazy loud.

Like the girls in bikinis, the bikers have a hard time standing out in the crowd of Harley beauties. Last night on Main Street gave us a preview of the competition. Ya gotta have a shtick or at least a funny licence plate!
