Saturday at Halifax

Away from the beaches, the core of Daytona is along the Halifax River. It's amazing to discover that this river is named after the same British officer whose name marks Halifax, Nova Scotia --- about 1,000 miles north. The river's City Island fronts the baseball park, the DIG site, the historic main street, the impressive central library, fish ponds, and the weekly Farmer's Market.

The only thing farmed locally is tourist dollars, so the produce and crafts on sale are from inland fields and orchards. Prices are lower than at the Winn-Dixie, so the crowds are large and friendly. Step right up for your breakfast popcorn!
