We saw the torch pass through our town of Owen Sound back on December 28 (check the blog entry for the 29th!). Our paths have converged again here in Vancouver. It has been the longest Torch Relay in Olympic history, covering 45,000 kilometers and 12,000 bearers. It has travelled in 100 different ways through Canada, including:
tractor plane car bike rowing scull snowmobile skis logging truck skateboard dogsled snowshoes tundra buggy curling rock rollerblades fire truck streetcar tomato harvester double decker bus Zamboni mine clearing vehicle vintage rail hand car horse-drawn fire wagon Newfoundland dory 3-wheel motorcycle schooner chairlift bobsleigh snowboard ice canoe crutches surf board wheelchair horseback police car horse-drawn carriage speed skates houseboat railway train and more...
Yesterday was the last night for the Torch on the road. It wound through Vancouver for many local celebrations. In about 3 hours from now as I write, the Olympic cauldron will be lit during the opening ceremonies. We're here to reunite with the Canadian warmth that is spreading all over the world. As they say, Have a Good Games!
The opening ceremonies WERE great. Wish I had seen the effects in person! I kept wondering which of the notables you have driven...KD, Donald, Wayne...can't wait to hear.
