Like waking up after a noisy party, today brought the clean-up after yesterday's concrete pouring marathon. We had resisted putting hand or bum prints in the wet cement last night, and no deer or racoons or rabbits had left imprints, either. But there were still thick slabs to push, backfill to rake, and dust to sweep. Eventually 2 of the pour crew showed up to remove the lumber forms and retrieve shovels and stakes. We couldn't resist taking the first step over the threshold from old to new.
The driveway is still the steepest in the county, but it's now 9 feet wide instead of the previous 7, and much more level. The danger is that there is now a 5 or 6 inch dropoff on the edges. Stay in the middle! No vehicles allowed for 7 days, so we're backpacking food and daily stuff up the slope.
But once the 7-day curfew is over, we're inviting visitors to try the new drive. First car up the hill after August 26 wins one of Pat's famous sunset fish dinners. Come on up!
