50-year Old Plunges Into Creek

An estimated 50 years ago, a wispy willow shoot sprouted from the ground next to a seasonal creek, running through scrubby bush and into Georgian Bay. It grew quickly, thanks to its spongy fibres that soak up the creek water like a '72 Corvette soaked up premium.
Since then the land was divided up, a road was created 70 feet away, and structures were built on either side of the willow. One of those structures is our barn, the other the neighbour's house. The willow happened to be on the neighbours' side of the property line. It grew to about 40 or 50 feet high, with branches in all directions. Porcupines loved the chewy green new growth and the ground below was often littered with leftovers from their buffet in the air.
Anyway, the neighbours didn't particularly like/want the willow because of the falling bits, and because they wanted more sunshine on their house and new deck. Too bad for the 50-year old, because last week a pair of local tree removers came over and deftly took it down in about 2 or 3 hours, including the cleanup and shredding. Really impressive to see these guys moving around with ropes and chainsaws. The neighbours have their sunlight. The upside for us: Pat got a pile of wood chips for her gardens. The bad news: their view is now our faded barn roof ---- anybody got a paint brush??
