REMEMBERING, SLEUTHING, COOKING

After the older pictures of Eva in the last blog, I wanted to add something more up-to-date. This is the last picture of Eva while she was still mobile. Taken at a baby shower December 8, 2012. A good way to picture her ---- svelte, proud, active. Rest in peace.

Walking the island is the morning routine, about 2.5 to 4 miles depending on mugginess and winds. Iguanas abound, the largest wildlife here ---- now with a campaign to protect them, not eat them (Eva would support that)! Once in a while a cop pulls somebody over, but you really have to do something obviously bad or stupid.

Remember my efforts to get a replacement motor for my 1962 Honda?? The only source of old original ones is Vietnam or this island. So I've been poking around in backyards, junkyards, and police yards. Best lead is Pedro el Mechanico who offered me his cousin's blue bomb. He rides it daily with no brakes or lights but I just need the motor. It runs OK but looks like it's been around since the Mayans invented time. Another prospective motor-donor has been in a guy's backyard since  Hurricane Wilma drowned it in 1998! I've been leaving these Want Ads on other local running wrecks. Wish me luck.

Mexico doesn't go on Daylight Savings Time but the sun still sets about 6pm, a friendly fireball. Then you can catch some pretty good basketball, or some pretty good music, in the outdoor town square. The Cook then does wonders with 2 propane burners ---- guess who does the dishes??
