After more than 2 years of application, interviews, paperwork, RCMP checks, and many other steps in the sequence the day has finally come to leave our familiar surroundings. We are on our way to our Olympic adventure, to work behind the scenes at the games in Vancouver. Brandy, our sole surviving cat, is going as carry-on luggage rather than in cargo. After all the stepped-up security checks at Toronto, the flight leaves late and we arrive at Vancouver in the dark. Astonishingly, Brandy didn't yowl once or even utter a single meow.
The temperature at home was -15C (snow) and at Vancouver it was +7C (rain). That's a difference of 22C or more than 70 degrees Farenheit!! It felt absolutely balmy and even tropical. We were met by our longtime friend and picked up a big white Mercury Grand Marquis, even though we had rented a small red Ford Focus ---- a major free upgrade but appreciated for our boxes and kitty stuff.
The apartment used to be a hotel room, so it is very small. But the view is spectacular and all 3 of us settled in by 10 local time or 1 in the morning jet-lag time. Welcome to the west coast!
