Going into Week 6 without water in the house. Ridiculously slow to get it fixed but we cope. The rain barrels are emptying out, so in this heat wave we've set up a "cistern" in the much cooler basement to avoid evaporation. (A pool for the mice??)
Up until now there has been record rainfall and it shows in the pond and garden. Hundreds of bullfrog tadpoles have hatched, like ants on a hillside. Plus all kinds of vivid colours popping up.
It was a Birthday day, complete with bagel with peanut butter and a candle. Then a drive north past the 45th Parallel of latitude to cooler climes. Canada's only Underwater National Park features vertigo views and a recognition of native wisdom. (P.S. Pat has a new phone --- can you tell which picture was taken with it??)
An early morning hike means we're alone amidst all this beauty and serenity now. Lake, rock, and sky. The famous Grotto and waters clean as the Caribbean. Hard on the ankles, easy on the soul.
Oh --- the town is Tobermory, what the locals call "The Tub". Perfect place for a shower, no? And melting ice cream bars at 10 a.m. --- what a day! 50 miles to take a shower, but today we're going 5 times that distance. Don't forget the passport...
