The COVID pandemic dominates the news everyday. But another tragedy struck Nova Scotia, this time the loss of military lives in a helicopter crash. Both events remembered, honoured, and fought in a star-studded All-Canadian TV fundraiser. Heartwarming was an all-female choir of doctors. Our donations went to food banks in Owen Sound, Wiarton, and Battleford ...Yours??
The sky reflects the changing moods. April showers bring? (see way below). Clouds. Fog. And sunrises are now so far north we see them through a side window.
Spring cleaning, cooking, and caring. The Girl scrubs windows, fashions a sundress, and cooks modified date squares ("double dates"? ). The Guy puts up squirrel shields and dries out a flooded car floor.
...those showers (see above) bring May flowers! Ask The Gardener what they are. I only know daffodils and the first peek of asparagus.
Other life forms abound. The mourning cloak butterfly spends the winter up here under leaf piles! Pond fish are healthy and the only things schooling these days. Robins started a nest too close to the car and have now moved to an upper neighbourhood...
And we have been dazzled by three awesome sightings:
RARE: Pileated woodpecker (seen once a year for a few seconds, this time often and for hours)
RARER: Ruffed grouse (never seen before but heard drumming once in a while)
RAREST: Yellow-throated vireo OR Tennessee warbler ? (never seen before, just migrating through)
