History: The Morning After, The Year Ago, The Week Of

History and important dates have always tweaked my imagination and memories. February is already chock-full of history with Groundhog Day, Black History Month, Valentine's, Chinese New Year, various made-up holidays, and even our anniversary. But the list has grown.

Yesterday's downfall of a tyrant in Egypt is still being celebrated in Cairo as I write this, but the hard part of their new history is just beginning. Good luck to them on another February day that will be long remembered.

And where were you a year ago when the Vancouver Winter Olympics had their Opening Ceremonies? What a glorious time that was. Remember the joy in the streets? Remember the lack of snow? Remember the red mitten frenzy? It's all being re-celebrated today in Vancouver, with the cauldron being relit and the spectacle being rebroadcast.

Here in central Florida the major sports history is the start of Speedweek, the hype and race events leading to the Daytona 500 next Sunday. It's called the "Great American Race", the richest, most prestigious, and just plain biggest NASCAR day.
The Olympics or NASCAR don't have the long-term impact of revolution in Egypt, but everywhere people are celebrating something. What are YOU celebrating today?
