Happy Canada Day!! Subdued this year with overtones of Reconciliation, respect for diversity, and alarm over events to our south... Still, where else would you rather be??
The first little road trip of the summer, to picturesque Tobermory. Lighthouses and mirrors en route. Great to see the ChiCheemaun on full schedule again.
Boarding the ferry we see two favourites ---- an expedition road warrior from Europe followed by a very appealing RoadTrek. Choices, choices. Followed by the traditional yummy picnic overlooking the harbour.
Back home, we're on a mission to declutter and repurpose. Very hard decisons, like putting out a couch/chair/tables ---- originally from my parents' home in the '60's and reupholstered by yours truly in the '80's. Let's hope they go to a worthy home.
The birds have quieted down as they nest, almost unseen. But monarchs have arrived from far away and their milkweed is waiting. One of the local foxes is still looking quick but skinny and dull.
Canada Day included a kids' day, indigenous day, and black history day. Local icons the Blackburns headlined one of the shows. Son and songwriter Bobby opened with soulful tunes about his heroes --- his mom and dad. 80-year old dad Bobby Dean Blackburn can still burn up the keyboards. All of this at the traditional first village of the Nawash. This sturgeon reminds of the bounty that used to be here.
So, to celebrate, should it be healthy garden-fresh green beans OR a large order of deep-fried onion rings? Hmmm. For dessert we (unpatriotically?) ensure there's one less beaver in Canada.
