HAPPY NEW YEAR! .... MILD OR WILD?

Early in the week the weather was climate-change mild. A walk in the old Beach 'hood led us to a new installation ---- "Red Embers" honouring and memorializing native women (missing and myths). Bright moose-hide banners flutter from 20 foot cedar poles, each with a spiritual message from yesteryear, today, and the future. A place for reflection during the holiday week.

Further on, the shore was open for annual Polar Bear Dips. But the warmth has tricked magnolia buds into their opening sequence. They might want to check the forecast and go back into their velvety blankets!

Still mild for New Year's Eve so we had a eagle-eye's view of the people and cars streaming to the shore, like salmon jostling upstream. The obvious platform for fireworks was the dominant CN Tower, so we set up to watch in that direction. But what's that glow on the other side of our balcony??

Huh?!!? The fireworks were set up on a barge the other side of the harbour. We had to side-eye what we could. Still great colours but mostly the bomb-like echo from the high-rise condos. BOOM! BANG! CRACKLE! Happy New Year everybody...

This morning it's back to snow and a cold first week of '22. We've made our resolutions, but any predictions out there? Will the year be mild or wild, and I don't mean the weather...
