BEAR WITH US

June brings a lot of things flying, just not us ---- yet. A tiny butterfly, a black-bottom Carpenter Bee (not bumble), and first-ever visit of a Great Blue Heron at the pond. Did that mini-version bring it in??

The sun rises further north, but still brought this week's heat wave. Enough to burst the poppies and glow the iris.

Yard work is mostly weeding and spreading cedar mulch, but the Gardener still managed to plunk in a tray full of shade plants. Don't ask me where they are out there...

Many plants are flowering ---- lots of attraction for bees but where are they this year??

The local fox patrols often but is worryingly skinny, don't you think? The hind legs especially should have more heft to them if the fox is going to be swift. A nice fat raccoon would help...

But the most awesome sight this week was a 350-400 pound black bear. Dawn is poor light for pictures, but that's when there was a loud thump on the window. Prowling, snorting, standing to reach the feeder, crashing through raspberry bushes, crushing the bird box, hopping onto the deck. Truly magnificent wild creature ---- biggest I've ever seen and impressively muscled. Truly, it's the Animal's Planet!!
