It's Thanksgiving Day in Canada and as always we are full of gratitude. A rainbow of leaves peaking in our window stop people in their tracks and cameras. Friends and family will be visiting in the next days, so we're cleaning up the place. The car finally got a wash, but so did the plane! In fond memory and thanks for my upbringing, the smell of pancakes (like my mom used to make) fills the apartment --- and almost set off the smoke alarm!
But we had a Sunday drive earlier in the week. Awesome lookouts on the north shore. Classic ferry scenes at Horsehoe Bay. Santa arriving on a Harley? And gleeful tourists everywhere.
Then on Wednesday ear-piercing fire alarms set this building in a frenzy. Everyone had to evacuate, some in hair curlers and jammies, to the street. Fire trucks racing to the scene made everyone even more nervous --- can I go rescue my car?!?! Sprinklers had been set off in the penthouse and flooded that floor. We're not affected, but all week there have been damage and restoration crews working up there.
Morning walks are a daily discovery tour. In the 3km around Lost Lagoon there are familiar herons but unfamiliar (to us) birds like rufus towhees or wood ducks. Trees are wrapped so raccoons can't get at the heron nests above. And the Garden Girl delights in the different bushes and grasses!
Overall, the sky's (literally) the limit! Swirling mists, faint rainbows, dramatic sunsets, harvest moon. All this week, all the more to marvel at. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
