A LONG RIDE BUT IT FEELS LIKE HOME

We left two days ago for a hop, skip, and jump to Florida. Stayed Friday night with relatives in Michigan who provided healthy home cookin' and a heap of laughs with some 3 special other family visitors. Then 14 more hours on I-75 Saturday to south of Macon Georgia where the locals are rowdy but the gas and motels are cheap. This morning we passed Georgian specialties ---- piles of peanuts, bales of cotton, and truckfulls of cattle. I have driven past this Welcome to Florida sign since I was 16; only the name of the Governor has changed!

I know the weather is breaking temperature records back home (18C on Remembrance Day!) but the climate here ---- breezy, sunny, warm ---- is as good as it can get for these snowbirds. By 2 pm we were in St. Petersburg, our base for the next two weeks, in an historic 1910 Old Northeast house. The nearby parks were absolutely full and festive with 2 events to make me feel at home. One was Ribfest with 20 ribbers wafting bbq sauces to mesmerize the crowd. But the other was a huge old car show under the oaks. Great to see my faves again when normally they're all put away for the winter!

The welcoming neighbourhood is a little Key West, a little South Beach, and a little like the Beach in Toronto. Young, active, and funky. Feels pretty good so far!
