Kid Tone, Hot Tone, Coppertone

We're glad to be in a Hispanic neighbourhood with the languages and music and passions all around us. Yesterday we felt in the middle of a soap opera when a mall cop tried to apologize to his girlfriend --- who happened to be waiting on our table at the time! The rose and begging did no good, he had done Maria wrong too many times. She was finished with that cheater Humberto and blithely said to us "Do you want more coffee with that?" as he sulked unforgiven out the door. The End.

The locals enjoy street festivals and spontaneous celebration every week. It could be kids pounding out wild rythyms on their own, or carefully following the lead of their maestro/teacher. Or do you prefer the Brazilian dancers and samba band, getting ready for Carnival (even though that party is weeks away).

Finally, I have to give a huge shout-out to the ORIGINAL Coppertone girl. That brand of suntan lotion has always smelled like summer to me, and nearby is the fully restored and fully original icon of those days, in its original location from 1952! Any irony in the name of the pet place next door?
