Sorry for the blackout last few days, been driving 12 hour days (til dark) and no internet in the donkey stables...
Border no problem, just $$$, nothing inspected, not even cats. First stretch in Mexico, to San Fernando, not bad, weather hot and sunny. But middle section very rough from Tampico to Villa Hermosa. Huge potholes, road bumps, washouts, slow trucks. Thought we{d need another few days. Then road got better and drove like the wind (thanx Matt). Surreal to drive into a place I{ve been coming to for 30 years but never by car.
The apartment (number 20) was cleaned up almost as well as Pat cleaned up Wineva before we left. 320 square feet, largish bedroom smallish bathroom. Great breezes off ocean, view of sunrise, roof deck for total sun or stars. Family run. Cats still think they{re moving on every night --- they climb into their cages at dawn!! But they{re happy to have some familiar smells as we brought bedding, kitchen utensils, and other stuff. I even brought a fishing rod which I{ll try off the dock on our beach.
No TV or phone but we{re trying to borrow or share a wifi in the building. Small fridge, have to decide between ice cream and ice cubes. Hmmm. All tenants are Mexicans except Germans and Argentinians. Van is filthy from rain dust bugs. Probably 85F or 25C in sun right now. Oh --- we have ceiling fan AND air conditioner but not sure we{ll use the AC. Good breezes and we like the warm.
This is from an internet place in Puerto Jaurez. We{re going home after getting some groceries and water in Cancun. More soon, just happy and grateful to have arrived for an interesting "winter".
P.S. If you can find an apostrophe on this keyboard, you can have my {{{!!!
