FROM QUAY TO KEMBLE

What's up, Dock? Toronto harbour is back in full swing ---no ice, thanks. Sections of dock are returning, specialized rigs go to work, and ducks forage in the winter leftovers.

The 100 ft. dock section for the water taxis was also towed in below us. An awkward dance as it got maneuvered lengthways and sideways into the final tie-up. Let the tourists begin!

But we couldn't hold back any longer and went to real home. Not much snow left so ---- yay ---- drove up the hill. The rituals of turning on the electricity, coaxing the fire, and hoping hoping that the water lines didn't burst over the winter (two minor leaks only!!). Load the fridge, let the crows eat chicken skin, and marvel at how far north the sun sets already. Great to be back in serenity.

Sunrise Day 1 beings the familiar fireball. The croci have spread in purple, white and yellow. And another FIRST up here, even after 19 years! ---- a pair of rare Eastern Flying Squirrels. But what creature was this bone section from??

All the regulars are starting to appear. Phoebe, chickadee, dove, chipmunk, red squirrel, etc.

And the local pair of beautiful red foxes. The larger male always lopes through to scout things out. This smaller female sniffs and nips at what she can get.

Yes, we're for the birds. New feeder made from a vegetable bin. And a fresh water chaser after all those sunflower seeds.

Now for second FIRST, the most magnificent so far. A juvenile Bald Eagle swooped at our window, then alit in the trees. So majestic, so sharp-eyed. Just plain Wow...

So we're in transition from quay to K. Snow this morning but the heartfire burns bright --- bring out the ragtop!!
