Feeling more like Spring this week with warmer weather due. Local fruit blossoms are at their peak, stark white against the dark of doomed ash trees. Sunrise still gliding further and further north. Three brave/crazy guys in the local cold rapids ---- shrinkage?! The Girl cleans, the Guy q's.
Update on the ducks. They seem to be nesting at the pond but two eggs have rolled into the water unlamented, and the shell of another found in the woods. They waddle around at the feeder but no sign of concern.
Update on the fox. Or is it plural? Are these two the same animal ---- or is the second one darker on the back?
Tempting to say this is Peak Beak Week, but maybe more to come. Thrashers, a hundred blue jays, finches, evening grosbeaks, hummingbirds, and more.
Warblers arrive in waves. Some get disoriented like this Yellow Warbler and have to be rehabbed a bit. As usual, it flew away fully recovered.
The most vivid returnees are the Baltimore Orioles. They love grape jelly and fresh oranges (me too!). Happy to oblige their cravings. But some of the furry locals raid the table and get all squirrely on sugar.
For the record, this week also brought a very sad, stunning, and bewildering event. We had Chinese back in the town near where the "Family Farm" created memories for many since 1974. But across the street we were shocked to see a real estate listing ---- the Farm has been secretly sold. Brother has lied, deceived, and cheated Brother. Other relatives aided in the subterfuge. What would Mom think? So many questions and so much hurt...
