SNOW OR NO?

Early April weather couldn't make up its mind this week. The street looked like the inside of one of those snowdomes, but a closer look showed rain out of the downspout. Days later, the sky was sunny but windy and three sisters posed between a T and Oh!

Arriving at Kemble, the snow was still thick and icy at the base. Another trudge with cargo! At the top, a winter wonderland remains. But the 40-pound car battery had to be carried down to make an Escape!

Yet there are familiar signs of spring. Squirrels have departed the shed but left their winter nest intact. Sunrises are further north. Those same squirrels are now house-hunting outside.

Local fishers create a gauntlet for incoming salmon and trout, now in season. But even with the ice broken up, no signs of fish yet in the pond. Did any survive?

Today it's much warmer and the spring migration of birds has started. Robins, jays, chickadees, nuthatch, juncos, cardinals, goldfinch and woodpeckers. First out of the ground? Duh --- snowdrops!

So we're shoveling the uphill lane, trying to keep up with a young and energetic Third Guy. It's warm again today and the snow is retreating.  Any bets that we can drive uphill this week??
