We're back home after 2 weeks away and 7 weeks since we had water in the house. Just to finish up the water saga, the plumbers finally showed up the day before we left. What a relief to turn the taps on! As a backup, the 200 gallon water cube has been filled. Good thing --- the recent heat wave reminds of the new reality, how critical water is...
Coincidentally, the last days in Newfoundland featured water too. Waterfalls and wild rivers compare to the Canadian Rockies or even northern Ontario. To honour Terry Fox and to commit to Canada 150, we dipped our toes in the (cold) Atlantic. Then the flight home that included unexpected views of our Toronto home and skyline...
Lots of rain in our absence! Record growth in everything, like 8 foot delphiniums, bushy roses, and jungle-strength lawn . The milkweed has spread and bulked up, ready to welcome migrating monarchs. But the (emptied) feeder has been chewed --- don't mess with Mother Nature?
I have to give a shout-out to the running of the bulls in Pamplona this week. A peak experience to be repeated in spirit every July 7. Go bulls!
Also had the annual Running of the Kids at the pond. Somehow the frogs know they're harmless and let the kids handle and harass them. A new attraction this year is Hosing the Bat Poop off the Roof. How cool is that?
It's Owen Sound's 160th birthday, with huge festivities. It's one of only 6 places in Ontario to welcome the World's Largest Rubber Ducky. 61 feet tall, 3 tonnes in weight, accompanied by a flotilla of vintage tugboats. Great to be home and in Canada. QUACK!
