ROCK 'N RUN

The chattering birds have gone silent now because the baby birds have hatched and it's important to lie low and quiet. But these mini-turkeys are taller than the grass. And new snakes show up easily in the lavender. A really obvious "snake" is this long tree root, one of many that has to be dug out before a new surface goes down on the lane.

We had three Frog Whisperers at the pond this week. Like oblivious puppies, the frogs allowed the kids to touch and hold them without flinching. What if the sister had kissed one --- would she have a Prince?

Turns out a shovel or fork won't penetrate the rock pile, so the tonnes of rock have to be loaded by hand! Then a sure-fire weight-loss technique: hold back on the wheelbarrow all the way down, like smoking the brakes on a runaway Mack truck. Dump the load at intervals along the slope. Huff and puff and sweat the 'barrow back up the incline. Repeat 8 times before breakfast, daily. Result: lose 5 pounds by 9a.m., regain at dinnertime!

Surprisingly, The Gardener is still planting veggies and perennials into July. The other project is to green-up the newly-framed divider area in the gravel. Watch this space! Otherwise, the pond and gardens are flourishing this year with thick growth and colours on land and water.

As always, a shout-out to this week in Pamplona, one of my fond adventures. In your heart and soul, run with your bulls wherever they may take you...
