PREPPINGFEST AND PUMPKINFEST

October sunrises are getting further south and moodier. Sometimes the day is heralded by just a sliver of light before the clouds close in.

Oct. 14 is unpredictable this year so we had early Thanksgiving. Too bad all the fallen fruit isn't eligible for pies. But The Cook filled the oven then filled the tummies with yummies.

The pond had to be prepped for winter --- good luck to the generations of fish and frogs that will have to survive! This year a couple of eager friends/helpers made the job quicker. Lots of yuck but it shows a healthy ecosystem. The next day lots of muck but it shows a healthy next system.

The annual bigtime Pumpkinfest is happening in Port Elgin. As of now the leader in the giant category is only 1777 pounds --- going for 2000 this afternoon? But The Car Guy was hoping for 2000 cars. Last chance before most of them prepped for winter storage. Pat liked the hard-workin' pickup. The Other Guy always pervs red ragtops.

Supplies brought in for yard prepping include straw bales (garden blankies) and used carpet (woodland trails).

Creatures that are staying for the winter bulkup when they can. Three pregnant squirrels vaccuum up the seeds --- isn't this late to start another family? A chipmunk is squatting in a very vulnerable old birdhouse. A pecker silhouettes, as if it's already vanishing from the yard.

2 other nomadic locals reflect on their winter --- will they stay or will they go??
