PEAK BEAK 2019

(Today is Mother's Day and we all had or have one...Be grateful to her...)

Get ready for a lot of pictures in today's post because it is truly a magical time of the year up here. The sunrise is so far north that it shows up in the dining room window. Tree frogs and garter snakes emerge for warmth. And this arriving warbler needed a cozy sock to recover from a window hit.

The CarGuy crawled around underneath before he looked above. The KichenGirl welcomed a new stove and promptly put it to work.

The WineGirl balanced off the optics by voluntarily cleaning up the church corner...

But the really big story this week is the frenzy of birds of every size, species, and migration path. Truly Peak Beak of the year! You can watch through every window and get a phenomenal show of nature on the wing. The colours are iridescent for better mating and matching.

And more...

Unusually visible and unskittish is the redheaded woodpecker. Not hard to see it close-up for a change. And if there aren't enough bugs to peck at in a tree, it grabs a sunflower seed and takes it to the tree to mimic bug-eating!

Even more unusual, the male and female Baltimore Oriole are hanging around like old friends instead of passing royalty. Gorgeous colouring, unmistakable song.

The biggest hit of the feeding buffet is orange-on-a-stick. The orioles were on it within seconds, as expected. But surprise! --- lots of the others treated themselves to fibre with an OJ chaser. Bon appetit!
