NEW GEMS AND A RUBY

The locals say there's two good omens ---- a curtain of light in the clouds, and a tree frog on your door. Yikes!

That seemed to help the fishers at the Salmon Derby. Big crowds, big salmon, big fish to fry...

Our main yard tools wore out at the same time. Garden Girl got a new mower, wheelbarrow, and laptop. (OK, that last one stays indoors.)

The Assembler got a new BBQ, but it wasn't easy. The manual said "assembly time 30 minutes" but the guy took about 2 1/2 hours! Out on the road, the 2 bits of scrap metal disappeared fast.

But the main event this week was hosting Ruby, a cheerful student from Taiwan. She was eager to see the big city, so here we go! Among the grand tour (and a lot of shopping!) was the TO sign, snacks at a Chinese grocery store, the skyline viewed from the Islands (on bikes), and the "clothing optional" sunbathers (she took pictures of them, I didn't!). Ruby also wanted to sample Canadian delicacies --- fine dining like Beaver Tail and pizza.

And more. Friday was Fan Expo, an Ed Sheerhan concert, subway rides, luxury shop$$$, an air show, and miles of walking and gawking. Too obvious to say the CN Tower was the high point of her day?

Then yesterday. 3 hours at Casa Loma (the closest she'll get to Europe!). And Buskerfest with magicians, aerial acts, and another sign --- what country is "Mac+Cheese"?!
