It's February so time for us to move on. But a shocking hate-crime shooting had just happened in Quebec. Combined with the continued darkness coming from the U.S., all I could do was join in the bitter cold protest against hate and pro-immigration. (My parents were immigrants, and your ancestors too if you look back far enough!) Fittingly, the security guy at our condo was Muslim. Sayed had been professional, flexible, and friendly --- a typical Canadian, and he can skate too!
This southern trip had been booked last May. So for the umpteenth time it's a drive to Florida, the bright side of the current American dark side. Our Canuck Buck is very low, so everything is $$$$ except gas. But it's soothing to arrive to sunshine and warmth. The first 10 days are a loop around the state, starting at Clearwater. Walking trails, wary eaglets, and a much-needed car wash to delete northern salt and snow.
The red around this bird's beak is exactly how the frostbite around my nose still feels! Then add those two Simpson's characters, Itchy and Scratchy...
Clearwater Beach is white and wide. It seems everybody's from out-of-town. Some even arrived by kite!
A special reunion with family from Michigan! We're happy to show these fellow snowbirds the sights on the west coast. Do you like your Florida quaint, historic, or just plain fishy?
Lots of sunny drives, including all the way to Mile Zero at Passe-a-Grille. Saturday market at St. Pete with one-man-band, golden oldies, crafts, dogs, and way too much food. The car overheated in the traffic jams and there was good and bad news from back home. But after another glorious sunset, today we split up in different directions.
A foggy drive and 6 hours later we're settled in the olde Art Deco area of Miami. Was Sinbad the pirate or the comedian? Anyway, time to settle in for tonight's game ---Spaghetti Bowl? Soup Bowl? Me and the Lady are GaGa over the Falcons...
